This section deals with the many larger household appliances including, but not limited to:

Reuse/Recycling Options

• Donate the appliance to a charity or non-profit organization. Reuse is even better than recycling and you can claim the donation as a tax deduction. The Recycling Committee has put together a list of charities for your convenience. The list is not comprehensive for area charities and new charities can be added as they are bought to our attention.

• Resell the appliance. Another method of reuse, but this one puts $ right in your pocket. Free advertising can be found in the internet newsgroup called "houston.forsale". Consider having a garage/yard sale and including old appliances the offerings.

• Return the appliance. Many companies will take your old appliance away when they deliver your new one. This gets the old appliance out of your house and keeps it from Bellaire's waste stream. However, unless the company specifies what will happen to your old appliance, it may be headed to a landfill anyway. The plus is that Bellaire does not have to pay for its disposal.
