The Texas State Legislature passed computer take-back legislation the requires manufacturers in Texas (think Dell and HP) to design and implement a take back program that is free for users.  The program covers desktops, laptops, and monitors (not TVs) and will begin on September 1, 2008.

Recycling Options

will take back any Sony product for free at one of the participating Waste Management eCycling drop-off center and recycle it for free.  "This program is significant now because in many parts of the country, you are charged a fee to recycle electronics, which can deter many from doing what is in the best interest of their environment and their community. This program is part of our broader global commitment to environmental stewardship, which spans product design, recycling, facilities management and energy conservation across all categories."
